We’ve just released a quick update to address certain issues that have been reported to us regarding the previous update (1.8.3). Mainly, some folks were having trouble checking the combined speed/cadence ANT+ sensor, which has been fixed in 1.8.4. Also, we’ve fixed an issue that sometimes caused the goal setup screen to display zero values despite having stored the values from a previous goal-based workout.

You can find SportyPal Pro by searching for it on the Android Market, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

We’ve released a new update to SportyPal Pro. Here’s a list of changes since version 1.7.1:

  • SportyPal Pro can now be installed on devices running Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and above. That includes Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0).
  • The Bike View (the workout view from SportyPal Bike) is now available. After enabling it in the Settings screen, select one of the biking activity types to use it instead of the standard view. This requires the Bike Addon, which is currently not available for Android devices (but will be made available soon). Enabling the Bike Addon now will prompt you for a trial request which you can use to try it out.
  • You can now use ANT+ speed, cadence, combined speed/cadence and strides sensors in SportyPal Pro. You can check and configure them in the Sensor setup screen in Settings. This also requires the Bike Addon.
  • Holding the bike activity icon in the main screen on a Sony Ericsson Xperia Active will display a bike mount placement guide for the upcoming SportyPal Bike Mount.
  • Starting from this version, you have to be logged in to use SportyPal Pro. You can also register a new account using only your e-mail address and password (you can fill in the rest later or not at all).
  • After sharing several workouts to Facebook, you will be prompted to Like the SportyPal Facebook page.
  • Fixed single-space name registration bug.
  • Changed profile editing validation message to be friendlier.
  • Fixed the speed unit in the goal setup screen.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the average speed in the goal setup screen to reset to 0.0 when you rotate the view.
  • Crash fixes.
  • Fixed an ANR that could occur when sharing a workout to Facebook via the workout details screen.

You can find SportyPal Pro by searching for it on the Android Market, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

We’re glad to see that a lot of you are taking advantage of our limited 99-year subscription offer. Some of you that had subscriptions from before this offer expressed their concerns that the 99-year subscription doesn’t appear in your Subscription/Voucher screen, displaying the previous subscription instead.

We just wanted to tell you not to worry. Your new 99-year subscription will appear when your previous subscription expires. If it doesn’t, log out of the application and log in again. If you are concerned that your 99-year subscription was somehow not activated on your account, either visit the My Vouchers section of the SportyPal Store (if you bought a voucher code) or ask us to check.

Workout lists revamped on sportypal.com

In the past few days we made a couple of important updates to the way we display workout lists on sportypal.com to address most of the suggestions from our users. It’s one of the most visited pages (our users see it every time they log in to the site), so we decided to add some useful features and fix a couple of annoyances.

First and foremost, indoor workouts are no longer shown on a separate page. Instead, all of your workouts – both indoor and outdoor – are now shown in the “Workouts” page.

Indoor workouts are shown with the usual barbell icon as a workout type. Because indoor workouts have no GPS data, they have no “Track” icon. Instead, they have their name which is shown below the workout’s date:

Image

You may also notice the “Extras” column. It contains icon indicators which tell you if the workout has a certain feature: currently, heart rate data or a track. Outdoor workouts now have 2 privacy settings: one for the workout itself, and an optional stricter one for the location on a map.

Image

You can create an indoor or an outdoor workout by using the tabs “New Outdoor Workout” and “New Indoor workout” in this section:

Image

To reflect this merge, the workout type filter has also been revamped to have both indoor and outdoor types. Unlike the previous filter, now  you can select multiple workout types at the same time. It’s also smarter – it doesn’t show workout types which you haven’t used in the selected date range.

Image

Speaking of the date range, there are now two ways to change it: either by clicking the down-arrow and changing the slider points or by clicking directly on the dates and picking a date using the calendar.

Image

At the end of the list there are some new extra totals now: distance time and calories. These stats change live as you change the date, type and tags filter:

Image

Last but not least, the tags filter has received an important update: it suggests the tags you’ve used in the workouts as you type. Also you can now enter multiple tags separated with a comma:

Additionally, this update will allow us to make the page size expandable soon.

Edit: And here it is: the long awaited expanded page size. You can now toggle between viewing 5 or 10 workouts per page.

We hope that you like the additions and changes that we made to this page. Stay tuned for more.

A new update is now available for Android users. Here’s what’s new since 1.5.7:

  • Voice notification settings have been reorganized and are now split into three tabs: Workout (workout notification options), General (HR zone notifications, Pal notifications, post-workout stats reading, Simple voice setting) and Goal (goal notification options). Which brings us to…
  • Goal notifications are not available. You can set a voice message just like the regular workout notification (with additional percentage, ahead/behind and remaining parts) to be played at a set percentage of your goal progress. There’s also an option to disable workout notifications during a goal-based workout if goal notifications are on.
  • SportyPal Pro now supports the SmartHRM Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor.
  • You can now export your workouts to GPX format directly from your device. To do this, open a workout, push the menu button and select Export GPX. The workout will be exported to your storage card (if you have one), in the SportyPal Pro directory (the path of the exported file will be displayed when the export attempt succeeds).
  • HRM zone breakdown. For workouts that contain heart rate data, you can push the menu button in the graphs screen to reveal a HRM Breakdown option, which will show you the HRM breakdown view from the website.
  • You can leave either heart rate warning limit blank and you won’t get a notification for that limit. For example, if you set a top limit of 180 bpm but leave the bottom limit blank, you’ll only be notified when your heart rate goes over 180 bpm.
  • You can no longer set up contradictory heart rate warning limits (lower limit > upper limit).
  • Fixed the plan distance numbers if your unit system is set to Imperial.
  • SportyPal Pro should now be able to start the default music player on the Nexus S.
  • Voice notifications should no longer read “infinity” speed.
  • The workout list screen is now properly centered on 540×960 displays.
  • From the starting screen, if you select Quit from the menu, you will kill SportyPal Pro (i.e. remove it from the task manager). Backing out of the starting screen quits the application normally.
  • Translation fixes.
  • ANR fixes.
  • Crash fixes.

You can find SportyPal Pro by searching for it on the Android Market, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.
