99-year subscription not showing up

January 10, 2012

We’re glad to see that a lot of you are taking advantage of our limited 99-year subscription offer. Some of you that had subscriptions from before this offer expressed their concerns that the 99-year subscription doesn’t appear in your Subscription/Voucher screen, displaying the previous subscription instead.

We just wanted to tell you not to worry. Your new 99-year subscription will appear when your previous subscription expires. If it doesn’t, log out of the application and log in again. If you are concerned that your 99-year subscription was somehow not activated on your account, either visit the My Vouchers section of the SportyPal Store (if you bought a voucher code) or ask us to check.
Note: the 99-year subscription is no longer available. While it may appear in the store due to a bug, you can no longer buy it.

The missing MTB icon (and it’s less-frequently-noticed Road-cycling counterpart)

July 13, 2011

Some of you have been commenting on us removing the MTB (mountain biking) icon from the selectable activity types in SportyPal Pro/v2. We haven’t removed anything, nor is this a bug. Road-cycling and MTB are only available if you have an active trial or SportyPal Pro subscription.

SportyPal Summer Competition is on!

July 13, 2011

If you’ve visited sportypal.com lately, you may have noticed that a new SportyPal competition has started. Click the banner below to enter the competition:

SportyPal Summer Competition

We’re giving away 5 Sony Ericsson XP110 experience packs, 3 SE MW660 Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Headsets, and 10 one-year SportyPal Pro subscriptions. Once signed in, to get a chance to win one, all you have to do is make and upload workouts from now until September 21. Each public upload grants you competition tickets, and each ticket increases your chances of winning.

Some of you have been asking why you don’t seem to have any tickets, even though you’ve signed in and have been uploading workouts. For a workout to count towards your competition points, you need to set its visibility level to “Everyone”. Also, to prevent abuse, GPX uploads won’t get you any competition tickets.

To set the default visibility level for new workouts, go to My Profile -> Privacy options, select “Everyone” in the “My workouts can be seen by” box, and click the Save Preferences button.

To set the visibility level for workouts that have already been uploaded, open the workouts list, mark the workouts for which you would like to change the visibility levels, click the Privacy button and select Everyone from the “Share with” pop-up box.

Installing SportyPal on your BlackBerry

May 5, 2011

Some of you have been asking for instructions on how to install SportyPal on your BlackBerry. It can get a bit confusing if you’ve never done this sort of thing before. Here’s what we usually answer when asked for installation instructions:

By far the easiest way to install SportyPal on a BlackBerry would be to visit http://www.sportypal.com using your device’s browser and follow the instructions there to install SportyPal over the air.

If this is not an option, then you need to download the COD and ALX files for SportyPal from the SportyPal download page for BlackBerry. You can then install SportyPal using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. This link leads to a pretty useful guide on how to install anything on a BlackBerry. In this case, you should scroll down to the “Installing Third Party Software Via BlackBerry Desktop Manager” part.

That should be all the info you need to install SportyPal on your BlackBerry. If you feel that we’ve left something out of this guide or that a different set of steps apply to your BlackBerry model, please let us know.

The products are currently only available to Android, Blackberry and J2ME users.  The Windows Mobile version of SportyPal Pro should follow as soon as its out of beta. The iPhone version of SportyPal Pro will also be submitted to the app store in about a week with all necessary paperwork relating to the Wahoo Fitness Dongle for ANT+ heart rate monitors.

If you have any comments or questions about the store, don’t hesitate to contact us (either on the forums or by using our support form).

Thank you for your patience and happy shopping! 🙂

SportyPal v2.2 released (Java and Blackberry)

May 3, 2011

Version 2.2 (Java/Blackberry) has been released. We bring some interesting new features such as track checkpoints, better progress indicator for tracks, improvement in the heart rate support (battery status, connection test), separate configurable workout start count-down (independent from auto-start) and various alert sounds (such as 3 beeps before workout start, beep on track checkpoint etc)

Changes:

  • Added: Track check-points icons.
  • Added: Matching the track check points in workouts. If check point is matched info audio signal is played and the track check point becomes green. If the track check point is missed for more than 50% the error signal is played and the check point become red.
  • Added: The track and its check points (green completed – yellow not completed) are shown in workout map.
  • Added: Now you can adjust the countdown timer. (min 10 sec). It is separate from auto-start, which means you can now have auto-start which starts immediately, or a countdown timer after “Pressto start”.
  • Added: Last 3 seconds of countdown have sound signals.
  • Added: Heart rate battery status. The red heart icon should now be filled with green as much as the battery of the HRM is full.
  • Optimization: No view updates while in workout if the application is in background. Should help save memory and cpu usage.
  • Fixed: Errors when clicking on empty lists.
  • Fixed: Smarter AutoPause: if the user pauses the workout manually, autopause will not auto resume – instead, an audio beep will signal.
  • Fixed: When an unsubscribed user tries to activate a subscription feature, the phone will check for subscription from web before asking about a trial
  • Fixed: Message dialogs should be easier to navigate with a keyboard.
  • Fixed: Sync already existing but updated track/workout should work correctly now.
  • Fixed: When auto-start is off, the manual start (play) button should work on phones with keyboards now.
  • Fixed: If the workout isn’t started and manual start is set, the stop button works as expected now (asks if you want to end).
  • Added: Synced workouts made on tracks are now properly displayed with their track if both the track and the workout are synced.
  • Fixed: When a new workout is started right-away after another, the old info (time, distance, pace ….) will be correctly reset to zero.
  • Changed: On keyboard phones, the slider pause button is replaced with simple (and more intuitive) pause icon button
  • Fixed: All workout lists should always be sorted now
  • Fixed: Buggy behavior when opening a track right after the track sync.
  • Fixed: Workout minimum heart rate is shown properly in the workout details view
  • Added: Test connection and check current heart rate & battery status in the heart rate tab (settings screen).

SportyPal v2.1 released (Java and Blackberry)

April 6, 2011

Version 2.1 has been released

Changes:

  • Weight, height and all other settings should now work correctly regardless of unit system
  • Added calories calculation for all workout types except Paragliding, Driving, Freestyle, Flying and Sailing. Additionally, all calories calculation issues should be fixed now.
  • Added an experimental HRM zone progressbar in the workout details screen. It is displayed only when a heart rate monitor is in use. Switching to it from the Distance or Goal progressbar is done in a way similar to the switching between actual / remaining / difference stats for a goal. It shows your current training zone based on % of your HRmax (which is currently estimated using age, but will be configurable in a later version).
  • On touch-screen phones, touching the label right next to a scrolling roller will allow you to input a value from a separate screen using a numpad.
  • Fixed a bug which caused a workout to be saved with a zero total time if the app was forcefully closed, the phone rebooted or battery died.
  • Blackberry: when the screen is off, pressing the back/menu buttons will only wake up the screen now.
  • Uploading a workout should now use 4-5 times less data traffic. As a result the maximum length of uploadable workouts should be increased 4-5 times now (especially on Blackberry: if you were able to upload up to 1 hour long workouts, you should now be able to upload up-to 4 hours long workouts)
  • Auto-pause for cycling changed to account for MTB (requires lower speeds now)
  • Other smaller bugfixes
