SportyPal Pro 1.3.1 for Android

March 23, 2011

A new update is now available for Android users. Here’s what we did this time:

  • The Indoor section has been disabled. It was not as good as we wanted it to be, so we’ll revamp it and add it again in a future update. Please use the online Indoor section to enter your indoor workouts for the time being.
  • Fixed calories for Road-cycling and MTB.
  • Registering with an existing e-mail address will now get you a dialog box asking you to confirm whether you would like to log in to that account.
  • Attempting to start a workout when the device’s GPS is disabled, then answering no when asked if you want to enable it will no longer enter the workout screen.
  • Fixed a bug where rotating the goal set screen would overwrite the goals you are currently entering.
  • Unsuccessfully looking for a GPS signal will now get you a dialog asking you if you want to keep trying.
  • Added the Show password option in screens where you have to enter a password. You can now switch between hiding and showing your password while entering it.
  • Tapping the rotate button will now produce a slight vibration to let you know that the command was received (since screen rotation can be slow).
  • Workouts that end on an automatic pause will now have an endpoint and the ending pause removed.
  • Fixed a scenario where rotating the main screen, then tapping the Goal button would lead you to a blank screen.
  • Connecting your account to Twitter will no longer show a blank screen while the page is loading (there’s a “please wait” dialog now).
  • The text entry fields in the goal setup screen are now limited in size so that they never grow to overlap the labels on either side.
  • Fixed certain dialogs’ text being cut off on some devices.
  • The quarter view font size has been reduced on small screen devices so that “September [year]” text won’t cut off.
  • Fixed a few miscellaneous crashes, as well as a more graceful approach to some out of memory errors.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

SportyPal Pro 1.3 for Android

March 8, 2011

A new update has been released for Android users. Here’s what we changed in this version:

  • Added automatic pausing. If you enable the Autopause option in settings, your workouts will pause automatically if you drop below a certain speed, and then resume when you start moving faster. Obviously, this will not work well if your device has bad GPS reception.
  • Added an option to keep the screen on during workouts.
  • Speed calculations now depend on the activity type.
  • Improved the way that subscriptions are checked to facilitate use of the upcoming online store. If you do not have the required module for a feature, you will now get a different message if you do not have an active data connection, as SportyPal Pro will check if your subscription status has changed between logging in and trying to use the feature.
  • The calories cap when setting a goal is now set to 9999.
  • Bug fixes (main screen memory leak, type 0 crash on workout start, landscape mode orientation hell if you run SportyPal Pro in the background).

You can find SportyPal Pro by searching for it on the Android Market, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

SportyPal 2.0.3 (Blackberry), Java JAD fix

March 7, 2011

Version 2.0.3 has been released.

Changes:

  • KeyUp events are now explicitly enabled. As a result, the Menu key should work correctly now in all screens on all devices (including e.g. the Licence Agreement screen).
  • You can now switch to another app using the Alt+Back shortcut without it having undesired side-effects (like pausing a running workout)
  • Long-pressing the Menu key only opens the task switcher now (it won’t  activate the menu of the app screen anymore).

We also fixed a little issue in the JAD file for Samsung and LG phones.

Version 2.0.2 has been released

Changes:

  • Added: Better graphs (in portrait view, the whole graph is rotated now)
  • Fixed: Possibly fixed a GPS race-condition bug when the workout is stopped (causing some phones to reboot)
  • Fixed: Uploading shouldn’t ask for a trial or a licence anymore. Sorry about that.
  • Fixed: Heart rate monitor status indicator

SportyPal Pro 1.2.5 for Android

March 3, 2011

A new update has been released for Android users. Here’s what we changed in this version:

  • Added an option called “Alter. GPS mode” in the Settings screen. You should turn this on if you’re having GPS-related trouble. It eliminates the need to have Tracker Booster running in the background. It will cause SportyPal Pro (and any other application using GPS at the same time) to request location updates every second, which is basically what you get by using Tracker Booster, only this setting respects the activity type’s sampling rate and doesn’t increase the size of your workouts dramatically, though it may increase battery drain.
  • If Alter. GPS mode is off, sampling rate still depends on activity type.
  • The initial map zoom level should be OK now.
  • Average speeds for goals are now restored correctly, and checking and unchecking goal options should automatically update all fields.
  • Voice notification language should always be English now (more language options will be added later).
  • We managed to break the yellow GPS status light a few updates ago, it’s been fixed now.
  • The pause settings screen has been replaced with a dialog box.
  • Fixed database leaks related to empty tables.
  • Fixed some potential ANR errors in the workout details screen.
  • Lots of crash fixes.
  • Returning to a non-calorie-enabled activity type after saving calories with a calorie-enabled type now no longer loads the calories from the previous goal.
  • Indoor now shows a please wait dialog instead of being blank while the page is loading.
  • Back button now works properly with EULA and welcome screen.
  • Indoor JavaScript alerts should now show up in-app.
  • Somewhat more graceful exit on rotation-caused out of memory error in starting screen.

You can find SportyPal Pro by searching for it on the Android Market, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.
