SportyPal 2.1.3 for Android

April 15, 2013

We just released a new update to SportyPal for Android that fixes several issues present in the previous versions. Here’s a list:

  • Fixed a bug that would prevent heart rate monitoring the second time an indoor workout was started. This is also the same issue that caused the SportyPal notification to get stuck in the status bar, so that’s been fixed, too.
  • Fixed an issue that would prevent tracks being downloaded to your device if their waypoints don’t have altitude data.
  • If anyone is having issues with their voice notifications not being played, the voice settings screen now has additional logging that should help us find what’s causing this.
  • LiveView/SmartWatch should now work in Indoor mode.
  • Crash fixes.
  • ANR fixes.

You can find SportyPal by searching for it on Google Play, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

SportyPal 2.1.2 for Android

January 30, 2013

A new update to SportyPal for Android has been released on the Play Store. It’s mostly a bugfix release. Here are some of the things we’ve fixed:

  • Fixed the Pocket Change loading dialog.
  • Added an option allowing you to disable Pocket Change notifications in the Settings screen.
  • Added a voice notification “middle ground” option. The Simple voice setting option has been removed – you can select one of three options if you’re having trouble:
    • Separate streams and volume – this is the default option where voice notifications are played on the notification stream and the music stream volume is automatically lowered while notifications are playing.
    • Separate streams only – this is new. Voice notifications are played on the notification stream but the music volume remains unchanged.
    • Simple: equivalent to Simple voice setting in previous versions. Plays notifications on the music stream.
  • Made some performance improvements for post-ICS devices.
  • Fixed bug where changing the screen orientation changes the language.
  • Crash fixes.

You can find SportyPal by searching for it on Google Play, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

SportyPal 2.0 for Android

September 14, 2012

With this update, SportyPal Pro has been renamed to just SportyPal (the classic version of SportyPal has been renamed to SportyPal Classic and will be removed from the Google Play Store soon). Other then the name, here’s what we’ve changed since the last update:

  • Interval training mode is now available (requires a Pro trial or subscription).
  • Along with interval training, goals and tracks have been moved to the new Advanced button in the main screen.
  • The Sony SmartWatch is now supported.
  • You can now add a personal message to your Facebook posts (Settings -> Facebook -> Add personal message).
  • The music player should now work on all devices running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or later (with the exception of the Samsung Galaxy S3, which does not seem to like other apps accessing its music player). If you’re having trouble with the music player on a pre-Froyo device, please contact us and we’ll try to help you in the next update.
  • Added an icon showing that a workout has been uploaded to sportypal.com when viewing the list of workouts in the workouts list. Note that this icon will only show you whether you’ve used SportyPal to upload the workout (if you were to delete the workout from the website, it would still show as uploaded on your device).
  • Added a menu option in the workout screens that allows Sony Ericsson Xperia active users to view the bike mount guide.
  • Slovak language support.
  • Improved ANT+ sensor reconnection.
  • Attempted to fix a bug where a speed sensor cutting out mid-workout would cause sensor-based distance to be way behind the normal distance. This was very difficult to reproduce and test, so please let us know if it shows up again.
  • Updated the calorie estimation for swimming workouts to be slightly more accurate.
  • Fixed a bug where the the indoor timer would not reset the minutes after the hour changes (e.g. 2:164:17).
  • Fixes for climb/descend issues.
  • Fixed a bug where current speed, distance and time would not show up on the LiveView if the workout is in bike mode.
  • Fixed track downloads – missing track icons will no longer cause the entire track to fail to download.
  • Fixed a bug in the sensor setup screen where the tire/wheel diameter would increase every time you opened the screen if your units system was set to imperial.
  • Fixed additional stops during voice prompts on devices in certain locales.
  • Fixed a bug where the device’s locale would reassert itself as the application language after viewing the full screen graph.
  • Fixed the graph leaving the graph panel on high-res devices.
  • Fixed strides sensor showing m/s instead of km/h.
  • Fixed a dialog in the workouts list screen where the text would cut out on some devices.
  • Temporarily disabled screen rotation in the indoor screen.
  • Crash fixes.
  • ANR fixes.

You can find SportyPal by searching for it on Google Play, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

We’ve released a new version of SportyPal Pro for Android. It includes a couple of new features as well as fixes for several of the issues with the additions to the previous updates:

  • Fixed several bike view issues:
The bike view should now be properly centered on all devices.
Keep screen on now works properly in bike view workouts.

  • You can now offset a workout’s altitude after it’s been finished by pushing the menu button in the workout details screen.
  • Optimized graphs a bit (scrolling should be smoother).
  • Backing out of the workout screens now always shows the starting screen (to avoid the scenario where you can’t back out of the GPS searching screen).

The new bike holder for the Xperia active

February 8, 2012

We have great news for the Xperia active users of SportyPal. We finally got the Xperia active bike holders out of production. We’re very satisfied with the quality and function, and we already have very positive reviews.

But let me give you a brief presentation:

The holder itself is very light weight, around 20 grams, but it will keep the phone steady in its place. We were really aiming towards minimalist design, because existing phone holders are too big and bulky, and that is one of the main reasons for people not using them a lot when biking.

Mounting is very easy and fast. Just put the zip ties through the holes, tighten them, and you’re ready to go. If you’re worried that the zip ties aren’t strong enough to hold the phone check out this video.

We had a lot of questions whether the holder can be mounted on the bike’s stem – and the answer is yes. Of course, the phone will be in landscape mode, but the SportyPal app has a landscape view, too:)

The bike holder will be available through the SportyPal Store very soon.

SportyPal Pro 1.8.4 for Android

January 27, 2012

We’ve just released a quick update to address certain issues that have been reported to us regarding the previous update (1.8.3). Mainly, some folks were having trouble checking the combined speed/cadence ANT+ sensor, which has been fixed in 1.8.4. Also, we’ve fixed an issue that sometimes caused the goal setup screen to display zero values despite having stored the values from a previous goal-based workout.

You can find SportyPal Pro by searching for it on the Android Market, or by scanning the QR code displayed here.

Note that if you are upgrading from a beta version of SportyPal Pro, you must first uninstall the previous version before installing this one.
